Comparative Analysis of Chemistry Education ( Czech Republic - Scotland)

Education systems of foreign countries are often what inspire us to make these changes. The aim of this thesis is to describe the education system in Scotland and the way chemistry is being taught at secondary schools in this country. Further it tries to compare these to the education system and chemistry teaching in the Czech Republic and consider whether we can adopt any aspects of Scottish education. Apart from analysis of study plans and educational documents, research for this thesis included visits to chemistry lessons at three secondary schools in Scotland and interviews with teachers at these schools. In the text, cultural and historical context of Scotland related to the education system is mentioned briefly. Then the Scottish education system is explained and Chemistry teaching at secondary schools is described from the point of study plans and requirements. EU Policy towards autonomous regions with a potential to be independent - Catalonia and Scotland

The bachelor's thesis aims to analyze the policy of the European Union towards European autonomous regions which have the potential to become independent. It focuses especially on the issue of EU membership for regions that have a tendency to separate from an EU Member State. Two major separatist events took place in the European Union in the last decade. In 2014, Scotland declared a referendum approved by the central government on independence from the UK. In 2017, the independent Republic of Catalonia, that wanted to secede from the Kingdom of Spain on the basis of an illegal referendum, was declared. The passive attitude of the European Union towards the aggravated situation in the territory of its member state led me to address the issue from the perspective of the EU whose representatives consider these developments to be internal affairs of the states. The main goal of the bachelor's thesis is to find out what the approach of the EU to the mentioned regions is in terms of potential membership in case these regions become independent. Term of evolution and its understanding by students of secondary schools and high schools.

The term of evolution and its understanding by students of secondary schools and high schools This Master's thesis deals with the conception of evolutionary topic in schools and textbooks. It introduces education systems and curricular documents of England, Scotland and the Czech Republic. Based on this information an analysis of biology textbooks was made, which was focused on the theme of evolution. The research included 62 textbooks distributed by 27 different publishers. Comparative SWOT analysis of these textbooks has shown that the concept of biology in general is presented differently, what is also reflected in the interpretation of the studies of evolution. The questionnaire research based on those findings was done in the Czech Republic. It is focused on secondary school and high school pupil's knowledge and their personal opinions about this topic. 586 pupils took part in this research. It was found that in the context of evolutionary processes the pupils have problems to use commonly known biological, or evolutionary terms (e.g. adaptation, evolution of the organisms). The bachelor's thesis "Scottish National Party and its position after 1999" discusses the development and status of the Scottish National Party since its foundation in 1934 with emphasis on period after the emergence of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. The thesis is focused on the position of the party in political systems of the United Kingdom and Scotland and its efforts to enforce the primary goal of Scottish independence. The basic measures of party's success are election results and participation in decision-making. The author examines the factors influencing the overal image of the party such as ideology, internal situation, party leader, etc. Study of the party documents, such as election manifestos and government programs, is important part of the paper. The Science in Intended Curriculum and Framework Documents in Selected Countries

The main aim of this study is to enrich the discourse on developing an intended form of the science curriculum in different country contexts. A multi-case study research design uses methods of content and comparative analysis to find answers to the research questions. The empirical part of the thesis consists of single case studies of England, Finland, Scotland and the United States of America containing contexts of the current curriculum development, description and interpretation of analysed structural and content phenomena in the curriculum of primary (ISCED 1) and secondary education (ISCED 2). Based on the single case studies of curricula, a comparative multi-case study is conducted, which focuses on the identification and interpretation of common and different features in the structure and content of the curricula to be compared. The studied documents can be divided into competency- oriented and subject-oriented curricula, nevertheless, each curriculum contains elements of both approaches. The subject content of the contemporary curricula seems to be more elaborated or at least more detailed than in documents of the previous decade. Reflection of the Highland Clearances in Historical Novels

This bachelor thesis deals with historical events of the Highland Clearances. This concept refers to the events that took place in the late eighteen century and early nineteenth century. In this time period Scottish Highlands were going through significant social and cultural changes. The Highland Clearances caused the displacement and dispersion of many thousands of local people from Highlands and Islands of the north of Scotland; mostly it was people with agricultural background who eventually had to move to big cities in the south of Scotland, to England or even abroad. These events still matter to a lot of Scots and are widely regarded as historical tragedy or trauma. This thesis focuses on analysis of 3 historical novels which portrayed these events. Specifically it is Waverley (1814), Butcher's Broom (1934) a Consider the Lilies (1968). These novels are analyzed and compared based on the origin of their author, the selection of the aspects of the Clearances, which they focus on, and its overall contribution and the form of presentation.
Types of governments in Wales and Scotland (1999-2016)

This bachelor's thesis deals with the types of governments in the regional areas of Scotland and Wales. The present work focuses on the period from 1999 until the present day. The period begins in the year of the first Scottish and Welsh elections for their new institutions. The thesis should primarily analyse the governments that have been elected in these regions. The main theoretical core is the Theory of coalitions, which is explained and then used for defining the types of the governments. The work will also focus on the electoral system which is used for the Scottish and Welsh elections and simultaneously deals with the impact of the electoral system on the party system. A very important aspect for analysing the types of governments, are the parties themselves and their ability or incapability of cooperation with other parties. These case studies should show which types of governments are the most common and find an explanation of this outcome. In the final part of the thesis, previous analyses of the types of governments are compared to determine similar patterns or contrarily to ascertain the most significant differences.
Protection of personal rights in continental system and common law

With the increased global infringement of personal rights, it is necessary to be aware of the protection in the different legal systems, especially Anglo-American. Even if the consequences are to be felt in the domestic legal order, the enforceability is recognized under the foreign legal order. The protection is worldwide and through the case law from the European Court of Human Rights the two legal systems - Common law and the Civil Law are penetrating the legislation and the case law in respect of the institute of the protection of personal rights. The doctorate thesis presents the complex introduction to the area of protection of personal rights in the Common law, especially in English law, Commonwealth countries and USA that has not been presented yet for the Czech legal professionals. The thesis explains theoretical concept of the Common law and its background for the purpose of explanation of differences of examined legal orders. The institute is explained on the key historical case law that led to establish the Common law principles. The thesis uses the current and topical legal cases and problems that the orders face in the 21st Century.

This BA thesis is concerned with the translation of A history maker, a novel by Alasdair Gray and interpretation and analyses of the methods of translation which were used. It is divided into two parts. The first one is the translation itself which is the main part. The second part deals with the analyses of the translation and methodology that was applied. It focuses on the translation of Scottish dialect and informal speech. The thesis is predominantly aimed at demonstrating some standard translation approaches and practices, using the chosen textual material.

A comparative study of Norway and Scotland's effort to address and counter the threat of organized crime in a globalized world. Marte Skaatan Ramberg The concept of organized crime is a rather "fussy", with over two hundred definitions to its name. This master thesis aims to debate the concept of organized crime and utilizing the concept for an investigating look at Norway and Scotland`s effort to cut and combat the effect of organized crime. Whilst tackling the ambiguity of organized crime the thesis also share some light on the security aspect of organized crime for the state and for the individual, using the framework of human security and traditional state-centric approach when evaluating the impact of organized crime. Different polices and laws shared between Norway and Scotland along with their objectives is also discussed all centered around the research questions - How does Norway approach and counter the threat of organized crime compared to Scotland? - What are the successes and failures with these strategies?
